    The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

    i8042prt

    I keep getting this in my start up, using wireless kbd/mouse.. The hardware is USB/Wireless, single wire on a USB port on the mainboard (not an extension), and frequently I get a shut down with the above reason, and would love not to.

    The info in the knowledge base gives “[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet Control]

    WaitToKillServiceTimeout = “20000”” as the answer, however this does not exist in my installation.

    Any thoughts please would be most appreciated.

    Does the error go away if you attach a PS/2 keyboard instead of USB ? (Maybe use a USB to PS/2 converter)

    You could try to tell Windows that it is running without PS/2 devices (headless):

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet Services i8042prt Parameters]

    Headless = 1

    More Info MS KB262798

    P.S. The PS/2 driver is a system driver and not a service (like you see in services.msc). Only services reacts to WaitToKillServiceTimeout.
