    Hello!

Have read article here about host name resolution order – good concentration of stuff, thanks. The only question remains, but it is very interesting to me – whether we could tune this order to exclude ‘hosts’ file from resolution chain? I’m not the virus maker – quite the opposite: hosts file is way to bypass our firewall-like application. There remains possibility to lock the file down to disallow winsock to load it, but probably there exists the better scenario …

If you want to control a system, then the user should not be administrators. If the users has administrative priviledges then no matter what protection mechanism are put in place, then they can be removed.

When the users are not administrators, then you can set NTFS permissions for the hosts file, so it is readonly, and cannot be modified by the users.
