I have seen two causes for DCOM Server Proces Launcher not starting.

    1. When infected by virus/trojans/adware/spyware. Ad-Aware

    2. When having replaced the termsrv.dll with a special version to get several remote desktop sessions. Use SFC /SCANNOW to repair this.

Do you have any errors in the Event Log ?

What version of Windows XP are you using ? (Home/Pro/Media Center)

    Hi

thanks for answer, your point was maybe correct. The problem is solved now but there rises some new problems

    First some informations…

    1) I tried Ad-Aware it found something but nothing important, so I deleted some old thinks like when-u search etc.

2)I found in some other forum exact same problem as I get and there was written to use SFC /SCANNOW command. It replaces some system files from the cd…and it helped. I dont know which files were that, so maybe one of them was termsrv.dll.

So the DCOM Server Proces Launcher is running now BUT:

before I run Ad-Aware program I tried some registry cleaners…they found a lot of mess, so I deleted everything they found. It was something about 3000 items so I didn`t check it…The programs were Registry Mechanic, Error Repair Pro and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner

After running all this program and Ad-Aware and the SFC command, the extended card in the service list is blank. The standard services list is still there but the extended is blank…

Next thing what I just found out is that searching (when pressing F3) is blank too. There is just a search dog but the fields are gone

The last thing that I noticed is that the Netlimiter statistics are gone and work no more but this is solved by reinstaling Netlimiter

Could you please help me how to make searching and perhaps the extended services list work?

    Thanks for your time…

And I forgot mention…I have win xp pro SP2 2600xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 build to be exact…

Events in event log: there are four errors for today…

    1. ID 7026 fail to launch some driver SAVRTPEL

    2. ID 7000 Service ScriptBlocking failed to launch because of bad path (this is maybe rest of Norton Internet Security )

    3. ID 7000 Service ASCTRM failed to launch because cannot find some file

    4. ID 7000 Service DS1410D failed to launch, connot find some file too…

Good to hear that SFC /SCANNOW was able to solve your problem.

Sad to hear that you used registry “cleaners”. They are trouble makers which causes more headaches than giving relief.

I would recommend to use System Restore, to undo all the stuff that the registry “cleaners” did.

I would then recommend you perform a proper uninstall of Norton Internet Security (SAVRTPEL / ScriptBlocking)

Then you can remove the reference to the service ASCTRM (Real Player) and also remove the DS1410D service (AutoCad – FlexLM) the same way.

Thanks I fixed all the Event Log errors

The Script Blocking Error and SAVRTPEL were fixed by deleting this registry entries

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ServicesSBService

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ServicesSAVRTPEL

To Norton… its impossible to uninstall it now. When I wanted to uninstall it correctly (one year ago) it always freezed so I deleted its files, some registry entries and disabled its services (perhaps this was a mistake) Later when I realised that, I tried to install it again (wanted just correctly uninstall) but I got couple of errors…But I think its completely gone now finally

You are maybe right about this cleaners…they are searching some shared DLLs and maybe they deleted something important But ehm…its impossible to undo that all because I turned off the windows restore service immediately I installed win xp

    To SFC command…

maybe I should say that when comparing the system files, not all were really copied from the cd. Two of three files were not found on the cd and I got an error message that cd is not in cd-rom. I thought it is because the cd was just SP1 and the system is SP2 already, so I just skipped them…

The last thing…last time I said that the Netlimiter problem was solved by reinstalling, but later I noticed its not true…I installed a new version but simple functions like switching tabs doesn`t work maybe this all relate with it…

    thanks for your time

Have a feeling that when Norton have touched a system, then it will never be like it was before.

Having System Restore active on the boot partition is usually a very good idea. One can still disable System Restore on the other partitions. Well I guess you could try to use the undo-feature in the registry cleaner programs.

The ServicePackFiles directory should solve any issues by having applied SP2 after installing Windows XP. Have you installed XP from an install cd with SP2 slipstreamed, or have you applied SP2 after installing XP ?

The last thing…last time I said that the Netlimiter problem was solved by reinstalling, but later I noticed its not true…I installed a new version but simple functions like switching tabs doesn`t work maybe this all relate with it…

Don’t have much experience with NetLimiter, but I recommend you contact NetLimiter support and have them help you.

It sounds like your Windows install have been broken pretty bad. Could you try to create a new user and perform login with that user and see if the issues with search and services.msc disappears ?

Overall I think the best solution would be a re-install of Windows XP, followed with a re-apply of SP2. (Where X is the drive-letter of the install-cd)

    X:/i386/Winnt32 /unattend

    Hi

I am sorry I didn`t respond for a long time, I was out couple of days…

Well…first I have to say, I gave it up and reinstal the whole system…I was finding still new and new problems, It deleted me even the win hlp files. The reason why I didn’t want to do that was I had many installed programs in there and because I have SATA drives and installing win xp on sata drives needs some external drivers (no problem) BUT on the cd I got with the mother board ISN’T marked which files do I need exactly (asus a7n8x-e deluxe)

Before I did this I restored the windows registry from two of the Reg Cleaners the other doesn’t have this function…It doesn’t help.

I tried also establish a new account, but the problems maintained…so I suppose the problem wasn’t int the HKey_Current_User key

Thanks for your time, I found many interesting tips on your server Dan
